A good German copywriter creates audience-oriented, SEO-optimized, native-level copy that actually resonates.
Need help communicating in the DACH region?

I’m a bilingual, German native copywriter and translator working with businesses across the world on sharpening their (sustainability) copy. To create copy that converts, I ask a lot of questions to really understand what you’d like your content to do: Sell, convince, support, engage. Because only with a solid foundation of knowledge can I write words that achieve tangible results for your business. If I’m localizing content from English to German, I dedicate special attention to cultural nuances and a native language flow.

And since you’ve landed here (and are still reading), I’m assuming that you’re looking for a German copywriter or a German translator/transcreator. Either now or at some point in the future, when there is more budget, this next funding round is closed, that one major deal is done. Well, isn’t that great? Read on to see if I might be the one you’re looking for!

What I (as a native German copywriter) can do for you

  • Work with you on identifying the right language for your brand’s expansion into the DACH region
  • Translate your core messaging from English into German
  • Improve AI-translated content into smooth and converting language
  • Create new copy directly in German
  • Help you write copy for marketing or sales funnels, like email sequences or newsletters
  • Discuss copy changes with your product or design teams so minimal layout changes are necessary
  • Transcreate key assets (such as your website, campaign or product pages, case studies, or other sales enablement materials) into German, with a focus on cultural and grammatical nuances (for example, Swiss German doesn’t use a specific, otherwise common letter, and Austrian German might sound a bit old-fashioned to someone from Germany)

German Copywriter vs. Translator — What’s the Difference?

Are you confused about translation and transcreation? Let’s make it simple: Translation is basically just taking text and turning it into another language (which is something AI can do by now). Transcreation is using native-level language senses to re-create copy that does what it should: Simplify buyer decisions, build trust, clarify investor stories, engage, or convert.

Having lived in Austria, Australia and various countries in Asia, I consider myself as a bit of an expert on the subtle nuances of localization of copy and content. With an international mindset, I recognize and make use of a lot of the cultural peculiarities of different nations. I think I now see the „German-ness“ of Germans much more clearly than someone who has never left their German-speaking home country.

When I transcreate copy, I employ many of the methods for creating fresh copy: I listen to interviews with the CEO, ask for user profiles and friction points, question phrases, play around with product demos, and more. This way, I can shape my words so they actually move the needle for you.

Who I work with

Over the past 8+ years, I have worked with businesses in a variety of different industries: Event planners. Solar energy providers. Blockchain infrastructure builders. Real estate agents. Eco hotels. Software companies. Vegan chocolate makers. The list goes on, but I’ll stop here – I think you get the idea! I work with solopreneurs, startups, and medium to large-sized companies that have dedicated their work to addressing the climate crisis.

My clients are based in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, UK, and US. Some already have an established base in the German speaking market, but are looking to improve their German communications and marketing efforts. Others are just about to expand to Germany, and need someone who can support them in creating their brand language guide from scratch. I work with one-person-businesses, where I have a lot of creative freedom to achieve the best result, but also with big international players where every word has to comply with company policy and legislations.

I’m used to working remotely and to communicating over multiple time zones. When I, for example, lived in Sydney, most of my clients were in Germany.

Why Hire a German Copywriter Who Knows Sustainability

I know first-hand how broad and washed-out terms like „green“, „environmentally friendly“ or even „sustainable“ have become. I read up on the latest guidelines and legislations on communicating a product’s or service’s footprint, and so protect my clients from making exaggerated claims that could result in fines.

And I love translating complex ways of measuring emissions, monitoring biodiversity, quantifying scope 3 emissions, and more into everyday language that just makes sense. Having worked for three years in a startup building infrastructure for the voluntary carbon market, I also have deep knowledge in the ESG industry. I’m particularly interested in dMRV technology, blue carbon and climate risk.

I understand how to communicate values and missions by showing what you do, instead of just making blanket statements.

FAQs for your potential German Copywriter

Why hire a native-speaking German Copywriter?

Because your users are most likely native German speakers too. And they will be seriously put off by content that sounds generic, uses jokes that just … aren’t funny, or is talking past what they really care about. It’s not just about the words themselves; it’s about the sentence syntax, the punctuation, the cultural context.

How will we communicate if I don’t speak German?

I speak English on a near-native level, and have led the marketing department of an international climate tech startup for three years – with the sole business language being English.

Do you only write for the sustainability industry?

I write for clients that are leveraging their products to decarbonize the atmosphere, simplify emission tracking, carbon accounting, biodiversity measurement, and other cool technology. But I believe that every company has to become a „sustainable company“, just like after the dot com boom in the early 2000s, every company had to up their online game if they didn’t want to be overtaken by newer competitors.

So, if you are taking conscious efforts to make your business a little less harmful to the environment, I consider you part of the sustainability industry – and therefore, I welcome you as my client!

Are you aware of new legislations for sustainability communications?

Of course! I’ve written in detail about the EmpCo regulation and keep a sharp eye on developments related to the EU Green Claims Directive. Any sustainability claims you are making must be verifiable, precise, and accurate.

How long do projects usually take?

That depends on the scope and my current workload. Smaller projects (1–3 web pages, a short case study etc.) have a turnaround time of one week to 10 days.

Can you tell me something more about your background?

Sure! I have a master’s degree in Journalism and New Media. Since 2008, I’ve worked on and off as a journalist, mainly for Austrian print and online media outlets. I shifted into copywriting full-time in 2018. Since then, I’ve founded my own copywriting business, and then worked for three years in-house as Head of Marketing at a climate tech startup. I constantly improve my knowledge of SEO/GEO, marketing, and of course writing. I consume media and books very consciously. My own writing is constantly under evaluation: I look at every sentence I write from multiple angles – to make extra-sure it works for the reader. I also use spell checking programs and have an external proofreader for important projects. Because even the best wriers sometimes miss a t. Ooops. See what I did there?
